Extension of the NAB Board’s term of office
The Namibian Agronomic Board (NAB) is mandated by the Agronomic Industry Act (Act No. 20 of 1992) to promote the agronomic industry and to facilitate the production, processing, storage and marketing of controlled products in Namibia. Section 4 (1) of the Agronomic Industry Act, further allows for the appointment of NAB board members by the Minister of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform (MAWLR).
The Minister of MAWLR, Honourable, Calle Schlettwein extended the term of office of the current NAB board members. The current board members were appointed for a period of three years and their tenure is expected to end on 03 July 2020. Thus, the term of the current NAB board members in accordance with Section 10 of the Public Enterprises Governance Act (PEGA), 2019 (ACT No.1, 2019), is extended retrospectively for the period of three months, ending 03 September 2020 or until such a time when the Minister appoints a new board.
The extension will allow for sufficient time in properly conducting official appointment procedures required to finalize the entire process of appointment of the new NAB board members for the next three years.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Enterprises will be engaged in the recruitment processes for the appointment of new board members in accordance with Section 8 of the PEGA 1 of 2019.
